MANILA, Philippines — A woman posing as an agent for an online lending company has been arrested in Bulacan, police said Tuesday.
In a press release, the Anti-Cybercrime Unit (ACG) of the Philippine National Police’s Anti-Cybercrime Unit said that suspect Beatriez Gonong, who allegedly used a Facebook account under the name “Krzly Dmngo” to impersonating a loan officer for “Kaunlaran Institution”, was captured last Thursday, October 27, in the city of San Jose Del Monte.
ACG said victim Quinnie Agustin applied for the P40,000 loan offered by Gonong, but said the suspect asked her to send in requirements such as his postal ID and a fee treatment worth 13,125 P.
Agustin was later blocked by Gonong after sending the required processing fee through a mobile wallet service.
Agustin then contacted Gonong using another Facebook account and the latter again requested a required payment for the processing fee. This prompted the victim to report the case to Tarlac’s Cyber Response Team.
Gonong is currently in the custody of the San Jose Del Monte Police Station while formal scam complaints are pending against her.
